Today I sit here after speaking other students in my class. Talking to them about our various dreams, ambitions and views for what the future should be. It's always an interesting conversation because no two people have the exact same view of how the future should be and even more so how we should create it. I'm of the firm belief that there is power in people.
Every person in an almost bottomless well of potential. Not acknowledging this potential, this resource is borderline insane. With so many people in the world and the unending well of diversity we find in people, we can find the optimal operator for any task no matter the complexity or simplicity of this task. Say we follow this road, say we try our best to optimize every single person's particular gifts, would this work? Would this give everyone an avenue to succeed in society? A nice thought indeed. But would this system even work? What is the best system?
I'm concerned with the optimization of human potential. It baffles me every time I see someone do something amazing. Every time I see someone that doesn't exactly conform to the general population. Because it's these people that shape the future. It's these people that step outside the bounds set before them and make an entirely new road to walk on. The leaders, the innovators.
These people are the true resource of humanity. The people that take the risk, that put themselves out there with no fear, only an idea and an iron will, are those that will succeed, and those of us that conform, are the ones that will also stand to benefit. Say we do give the opportunity of success to more people, say we do give the resources to anyone displaying these gifts of nonconformity, how would that shape our world? Would it look any different? I think so, to a certain extent. I've always felt like those that made it from nothing, owe a lot of their success to those struggles, to those days of almost giving up, but just holding on. Those days of pure despair, either crush you, or harden you into a diamond. The fundamental nature of humans is to either collapse or rise from the pain and hardships of living. Ironically enough it's those same hardships that shape us, that mold us into what we can be. I feel like the terrible things we go through in life, for better or worse, beats our potentials out of us. Those who view struggle as a flame to forge yourself into a weapon of success, congratulations. That is the winner's mindset and you will succeed. For those that don't, good luck. You'll need it..
